Overview

Calc-pal ("the App") is a multi-mode professional calculator with voice interaction and AI-powered assistance. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Data Collection

Device Identifier: The App generates a random, anonymous identifier (UUID) on your device. This identifier is used solely to keep your conversations, documents, and preferences separate from other users. It is not linked to your Apple ID, phone number, email, or any personal information.

No Account Required: The App does not require you to create an account, log in, or provide any personal information such as your name, email address, or phone number.

Data We Process

Conversations: Messages you send to the AI assistant are transmitted to our server for processing and stored so you can access your conversation history. Conversations are linked only to your anonymous device identifier.
Voice Input: When you use voice features, audio is recorded on your device and sent to our server for transcription. Audio files are deleted immediately after transcription.
Documents: PDFs and images you upload are processed on our server for AI analysis. Document content is stored to provide context in conversations.
Preferences: Your settings (calculator mode, language, precision, etc.) are stored locally on your device using AsyncStorage.
Calculation History: Your calculation history is stored locally on your device.

AI Processing

The App uses OpenAI's API to process your messages, transcribe voice input, and generate responses. When you interact with the AI:

Your message text is sent to OpenAI for processing
OpenAI's data usage policies apply to this processing
We do not use your data to train AI models
The AI may learn facts you share in conversation (e.g., your preferred units) to personalize responses. This information is stored on our server, linked only to your anonymous device ID

Data Storage and Security

Server-side data (conversations, documents, AI learning) is stored in a PostgreSQL database
All data transmission uses HTTPS encryption
Data is isolated per device — no user can access another user's data
We do not sell, share, or transfer your data to third parties beyond what is necessary for AI processing (OpenAI)

Data Retention

Conversations and documents are retained on our servers until you delete them within the App. You can delete individual conversations or all data at any time. Local data (preferences, history, slang) can be cleared by uninstalling the App or clearing app data.

Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Your Rights

You can delete your conversations and documents at any time from within the App
You can use the App in offline mode to avoid any data transmission
You can uninstall the App to remove all locally stored data
